First seen Apr 07, 2026 · Last updated Apr 25, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study tested whether giving amantadine early in Parkinson's disease treatment can prevent or delay the involuntary movements (dyskinesia) caused by the standard drug L-DOPA. 210 people with early-stage Parkinson's took either amantadine or a placebo for 18 months. The goal was to see if early use of amantadine could reduce the long-term risk of these movement problems.
