Ultrasound breaks through Brain's defenses in Alzheimer's fight

NCT ID NCT03739905

Summary

This study tested whether using focused ultrasound waves could safely open the blood-brain barrier in people with Alzheimer's disease. Thirty-five participants received three ultrasound treatments aimed at specific brain areas, with researchers monitoring safety and looking for changes in memory and brain proteins. The goal was to see if temporarily opening this protective barrier could help clear harmful substances from the brain.
