New pill may help lung damage after stem cell transplants

Summary

This study tests an experimental pill called alvelestat in people who developed a serious lung condition (bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome) after a stem cell transplant. The goal is to find a safe dose that blocks a harmful enzyme and improves lung function. About 14 adults with chronic graft-versus-host disease will take the drug for up to a year.
