New pill could help lung damage after transplant

Summary

This study tests a new oral drug called alvelestat for people who develop a serious lung condition (bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome) after a stem cell transplant. The drug aims to block a harmful enzyme that may damage the lungs. About 14 adults with chronic graft-versus-host disease and lung problems will take the drug for up to a year to see if it is safe and improves breathing.
