Mirror, mirror: new study probes Self-Recognition in psychosis risk
NCT ID NCT04945278
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study uses a special two-way mirror device to see how teenagers and young adults at risk for psychosis recognize themselves versus others. Participants sit opposite a healthy volunteer and report who they see as lighting changes. The goal is to find differences in self-other perception that could signal early psychosis vulnerability.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help us understand how self-recognition differs in people at risk for psychosis, potentially guiding future therapies.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early observational study with only 34 participants. It does not test any treatment, so direct benefits are unlikely.
