Sound waves open brain barrier to deliver ALS treatment in first human test

NCT ID NCT07193953

First seen Oct 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This early-stage study tests whether a special helmet using sound waves can safely open a small part of the brain's protective barrier in people with ALS. This allows a powerful anti-inflammatory medicine (IVIg) to reach the motor cortex, the brain area controlling movement. The main goal is to check for side effects and see if the procedure is feasible in just 6 adults with ALS.
