Skin cells could unlock secrets of ALS

NCT ID NCT06450691

First seen Apr 23, 2026 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study aims to better understand amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) by growing skin cells from patients in the lab. Researchers will collect skin biopsies and blood samples from 110 adults, including people with ALS, healthy carriers of ALS-related gene mutations, and control subjects. By stressing the cells and looking for abnormal protein clumps, they hope to learn more about how the disease works at a cellular level. This is an observational study, not a treatment trial.
