Brain scans reveal why bipolar disorder and alcohol risk are linked

NCT ID NCT05838274

Summary

This study aims to understand why young adults with bipolar disorder are at high risk for developing alcohol use disorders. Researchers will follow 160 young adults (half with bipolar disorder) for two years, using brain scans and controlled alcohol sessions to see how stress and brain development affect alcohol responses. The goal is to identify biological risk factors that could lead to better prevention strategies.
