Could a simple protein infusion sharpen thinking in liver patients?
NCT ID NCT06052176
First seen Apr 11, 2026 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study looks at whether giving a protein called albumin through a vein can improve thinking and memory in people with cirrhosis who have had episodes of confusion (hepatic encephalopathy). About 30 adults with liver scarring and mild cognitive issues will receive both albumin and a saltwater solution at different times, acting as their own control. The goal is to see if any mental benefits last for weeks after the infusions stop.
