Chin and neck measurements may predict safer intubation

NCT ID NCT07668297

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This observational study in 240 adults having elective surgery will measure distances on the chin and neck to see if they can predict the distance from the teeth to the voice box. The goal is to help doctors pick the correct laryngoscope blade size for placing a breathing tube, which could make intubation safer and reduce complications.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help doctors choose the right breathing tube size more easily, potentially reducing airway complications during surgery.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early observational study, not a treatment trial. The measurements may not reliably predict blade size in all patients, and results may not apply to everyone.
