AI-Powered summaries aim to make eye care notes clearer for patients
NCT ID NCT06859216
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether artificial intelligence can create simple summaries of eye doctor notes that are easier for patients to understand. About 460 English-speaking adults receiving eye care will get either standard notes or notes plus an AI-generated plain language summary. Participants will then answer surveys to see how well they understood their diagnosis and treatment plan, and whether the summaries help them feel more confident about their care.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
AI-generated plain language summaries
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that AI summaries help patients better understand their eye care, leading to improved communication and confidence.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study focused on comprehension, not treatment. The AI summaries may not improve understanding for everyone, and results may not apply to all patients or settings.
