First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 24 times
Summary
This study aims to develop and validate a new, non-invasive saliva test that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to detect periodontitis (gum disease) early. Researchers will collect saliva samples from 200 adults—some with gum disease and some healthy—and use a special sensor and AI to see if it can accurately tell the difference. If successful, this could lead to a quick, painless way to diagnose gum disease at the dentist's office before serious damage occurs.
