AI eye doctor: algorithm aims to predict SMILE surgery risks
NCT ID NCT06204926
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests an artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm that analyzes videos from SMILE eye surgery to predict complications like cloudy bubbles or suction loss during the procedure, as well as outcomes like vision correction and corneal thickness afterward. Researchers will enroll 1,250 people with nearsightedness to see how accurate the AI is. If it works, this tool could help surgeons make safer decisions during laser eye surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- AI diagnostic algorithm
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this AI tool could help surgeons predict and avoid complications during SMILE eye surgery, leading to safer procedures and better vision outcomes.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early-stage diagnostic study, not a treatment. The AI may not be accurate enough in real-world settings, and results may not apply to all patients or surgeries.
