AI could help pick surgery or ablation for liver cancer patients
NCT ID NCT07582419
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study will test whether an artificial intelligence (AI) model can help doctors decide between surgery and microwave ablation for people with early-stage liver cancer. The AI will analyze images from contrast-enhanced ultrasound and MRI scans to predict the risk of cancer returning within two years. Over 1,400 participants will be followed to see if the AI's recommendation leads to better outcomes. The goal is to make treatment decisions more personalized and reduce recurrence rates.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
artificial intelligence (AI) model analyzing contrast-enhanced ultrasound and MRI images
What this could lead to
If successful, this AI tool could help doctors personalize treatment for early-stage liver cancer, potentially lowering the chance of cancer coming back within two years.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage observational study, not a treatment trial. The AI model may not work as well in real-world settings or for all patients, and it does not test a new drug or therapy.
