AI vs. doctor: the race to save sight in routine checkups
NCT ID NCT07069647
Summary
This study is testing whether artificial intelligence (AI) software can help family doctors and geriatric specialists better screen for two common causes of vision loss: diabetic eye disease and age-related macular degeneration. About 4,300 adults with diabetes or over age 50 will be randomly assigned to have their eye scan analyzed by the AI tool with immediate results or by a doctor alone. The goal is to see if the AI helps find more cases earlier, leading to faster referrals to eye specialists and better treatment.
