AI coaching may turn novice ultrasound operators into expert-level diagnosticians
NCT ID NCT07801209
First seen Sep 03, 2026 · Last updated Sep 04, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether an AI system can guide junior sonographers, those with less than three years of experience, to scan and diagnose ovarian masses more accurately. Participants undergo ultrasound exams performed by these sonographers, either with or without AI assistance. Researchers compare the AI-assisted results to unassisted ones and to expert sonographers' assessments, aiming to see if AI can help novices reach expert-level skill in real clinical settings.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- AI-assisted ultrasound scanning and diagnosis system
- What this could lead to
- If it works, AI guidance could help less experienced sonographers scan and diagnose ovarian masses with expert-level accuracy, improving care where specialists are scarce.
- What could go wrong
- The trial is early and measures operator performance, not direct patient outcomes. AI assistance may not improve accuracy in real-world settings, and results depend on the quality of the AI system and operator training.
