AI helps doctors spot cancerous polyps during colonoscopy
NCT ID NCT06791395
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested an artificial intelligence (AI) tool that helps doctors diagnose colorectal polyps during a colonoscopy. The AI analyzes images from a special high-magnification endoscope to predict whether a polyp is cancerous or not. The goal is to improve accuracy and reduce unnecessary biopsies. The study involved 570 patients and was completed at multiple hospitals.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Computer-aided diagnosis (CADx) support tool
What this could lead to
If successful, this AI tool could help doctors accurately diagnose colorectal polyps during colonoscopy, reducing the need for biopsies and lowering costs.
What could go wrong
This is a completed study, but the AI may not work as well in all patients or settings. It is a diagnostic aid, not a treatment, and errors could still occur.
