AI guides Doctors' lungs scope in pneumonia battle
NCT ID NCT07230431
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tests an AI system that helps doctors navigate a bronchoscope (a thin tube with a camera) into the lungs of patients with severe pneumonia. The AI provides real-time visual cues and voice prompts to guide the doctor to the right spot and describe what they see. About 100 adults will take part across multiple hospitals in China. The goal is to see if AI assistance improves diagnostic accuracy and reduces procedure time compared to standard bronchoscopy.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Embodied-Intelligence-Assisted Bronchoscopy Navigation and Diagnostic System (EIBRONCH) - an AI software/hardware device that provides real-time visual and voice guidance during bronchoscopy
What this could lead to
If successful, this AI system could help doctors perform bronchoscopy more accurately and quickly, potentially improving diagnosis and treatment for severe pneumonia patients.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study with only 100 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The AI is decision-support only, and technical issues or user error could limit its benefit.
