AI-Powered MRI could spot cancer early in kids with NF1
NCT ID NCT04763109
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This pilot study is testing whether a whole-body MRI scan, analyzed by artificial intelligence, can reliably detect pre-cancerous changes in children with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). Fifteen children will receive three MRI scans over a year. The goal is to see if the scans are consistent and if the AI can spot changes that might indicate early cancer.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Whole-body Magnetic Resonance Imaging with Artificial Intelligence analysis
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could lead to a new, non-invasive way to spot early cancer signs in children with NF1, allowing for earlier treatment.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small pilot study (15 people) focused on feasibility, not on proving the method works. The AI algorithm may not be accurate enough, and results may not apply to all NF1 patients.
