Sound wave scanner could help ER doctors spot heart trouble in minutes
NCT ID NCT07653204
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study will test a non-invasive device called ADx-One that uses airborne ultrasound to capture chest vibrations. Researchers aim to develop a computer algorithm that can tell if a patient's chest pain or shortness of breath is due to a heart problem or something else. The study will enroll 2,500 adults in French emergency departments, but the device will not change their usual care.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
ADx-One medical device (airborne ultrasound)
What this could lead to
If successful, this device could help emergency doctors quickly and accurately identify whether chest pain or shortness of breath is caused by a heart problem, speeding up treatment.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study to develop an algorithm, not a final test. The device is not yet proven to work, and it will not change patient care during the trial.
