Gene test may help tailor pain meds after surgery

Summary
This study tested whether a genetic test can help doctors choose safer and more effective pain medicines after surgery. About 1,600 people having planned surgeries were randomly assigned to get either immediate genetic testing to guide their pain treatment or standard care. The goal was to see if testing improves pain control and reduces opioid use, especially in people whose bodies process certain pain drugs slowly.
