New drug aims to melt liver fat in NASH patients
NCT ID NCT05842512
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tests a drug called ADI-PEG 20 against a placebo in 60 adults with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), a type of fatty liver disease. Participants receive injections over 24 weeks, and doctors measure changes in liver fat using MRI. The goal is to see if the drug can safely reduce liver fat and improve the condition.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
ADI-PEG 20 (pegargiminase)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a new treatment for nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), a serious fatty liver disease.
What could go wrong
This is an early phase 2 trial with only 60 people, so results may not be conclusive. The drug may not reduce liver fat better than placebo, and side effects are possible.
