Smartphone system aims to automate insulin delivery for type 1 diabetes
NCT ID NCT01939834
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests an automated insulin delivery system for adults with type 1 diabetes. The system uses a smartphone connected to a continuous glucose monitor and insulin pump to help keep blood sugar levels in a healthy range, especially overnight. Ten participants compare the automated system with standard pump therapy to see if it improves blood sugar control and reduces dangerous lows.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Closed-loop control system (smartphone-based automated insulin delivery)
What this could lead to
If successful, this system could help people with type 1 diabetes maintain better blood sugar control with less effort, reducing the risk of complications.
What could go wrong
This is an early feasibility study with only 10 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The system may not work as well in real-world conditions or could have technical issues.
