Summary

This study tested a new 'adaptive' brain stimulation system for Parkinson's disease patients who experience freezing of gait—sudden, temporary inability to walk. The device monitors brain signals and movement, then automatically adjusts stimulation levels in real-time instead of delivering constant stimulation. Researchers wanted to see if this personalized, responsive approach could improve walking safety and reduce freezing episodes better than standard stimulation.
