Acupuncture may cut opioid need in cancer patients

NCT ID NCT04459416

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 07, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding acupuncture to standard pain care can reduce the need for strong opioid painkillers in people with multiple myeloma, Hodgkin disease, or non-Hodgkin lymphoma who are getting high-dose chemotherapy. About 299 adults will be randomly assigned to receive either usual pain management alone or usual care plus acupuncture. Researchers will track how many patients use opioids and how severe their symptoms are, aiming to find a safer way to manage pain.
