NCT ID NCT07515482
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether manual acupuncture can reduce the burden of acute tinnitus compared to sham acupuncture or usual care. Researchers will enroll 180 adults with bothersome tinnitus lasting 2 weeks to 6 months. Participants receive 10 sessions over 4 weeks, and outcomes focus on tinnitus-related handicap and function.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
manual acupuncture
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a non-drug option to ease tinnitus-related handicap and improve quality of life.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage trial with no phase, so results may not be conclusive. Sham acupuncture also involves needles, making it hard to separate real from placebo effects.
