Surgery for narrow spine: does it really get seniors moving again?
NCT ID NCT06057428
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tracks 80 elderly patients (65+) with lumbar spinal stenosis who are scheduled for decompressive surgery. Researchers will measure their activity levels using a device before and after surgery, and follow them for two years. The goal is to see if surgery objectively improves how much they move in daily life, beyond just feeling better.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Decompressive surgery
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could help doctors better understand how surgery improves daily activity in elderly patients, potentially leading to more people being offered surgery to improve quality of life.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial, so it won't prove surgery works for everyone. Results may not apply to all patients, and surgery carries standard risks like infection or complications.
