Stick-On patch hears swallowing trouble after stroke
NCT ID NCT07251140
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study is testing a new wearable patch that uses a microphone to listen to swallowing sounds in people who have trouble swallowing after a stroke. The patch is placed on the neck and records sounds during a standard swallowing X-ray test. Researchers will use machine learning to find patterns that could help diagnose swallowing problems more easily.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Microphone device (wearable acoustic biopatch)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a simple, non-invasive way to screen for swallowing problems after a stroke.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study focused on collecting data, not testing a treatment. The device may not reliably detect swallowing issues in all patients.
