First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at how two common acne antibiotics, sarecycline and doxycycline, change the bacteria living in your gut and on your skin. Researchers will track these changes in 30 people with acne over the treatment period. The goal is to understand which antibiotic is gentler on your body's natural bacterial balance.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

sarecycline and doxycycline

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help doctors choose acne treatments that minimize disruption to beneficial bacteria.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase study with only 30 participants, so results may not apply broadly. It focuses on microbiome changes, not directly on acne improvement.
