Ultrasound within 12 minutes may predict cardiac arrest outcomes

NCT ID NCT03494153

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looked at 346 adults who had a cardiac arrest outside the hospital. Doctors used an ultrasound within the first 12 minutes of CPR to see if a still heart (no movement) meant the heart would not restart. The goal was to help decide on next steps like ECMO or organ donation. The study did not test a treatment, but aimed to improve understanding and decision-making.
