Jaw surgery showdown: custom implants vs. traditional splints
NCT ID NCT07671794
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This trial tests whether a custom-made implant (patient-specific implant) or a standard occlusal splint is more accurate for positioning the upper jaw during corrective jaw surgery. Twenty adults with jaw deformities will be randomly assigned to one of the two methods. The goal is to see which approach better matches the planned surgical outcome.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that patient-specific implants improve surgical precision for jaw repositioning, potentially leading to better outcomes in corrective jaw surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 20 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The study focuses on accuracy, not long-term benefits or risks.
