Chicago study tests whether a guide through the healthcare maze boosts cancer screening rates
NCT ID NCT07669753
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study enrolls 750 adults in Chicago to see if working with a trained health navigator (a non-clinical guide) helps people complete recommended cancer screenings. Participants are randomly assigned to standard navigation or navigation plus a health checklist. The study lasts 12 months and measures screening completion and resolution of social needs like transportation or housing. It does not test a drug or treatment, but aims to find better ways to connect people with preventive care.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Patient navigation program (standard or with a guided checklist)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that patient navigation helps more people get recommended cancer screenings, especially those facing social or economic barriers.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage behavioral study, not testing a drug or cure. Results may not apply to other cities or populations, and improvements in screening may not reduce cancer deaths.
