Heat zap after lumpectomy may cut breast cancer return and re-operations

NCT ID NCT01153035

First seen Nov 10, 2025 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study looks at whether using radiofrequency ablation (a heat treatment) on the area where a breast tumor was removed can lower the chance that cancer comes back or that more surgery is needed. About 104 women aged 50 and older with early-stage breast cancer will get this extra treatment right after their lumpectomy. Researchers will track them for 5 years to see if the approach works.
