New hope to stop deadly transplant complication

NCT ID NCT01743131

Summary

This study tested if adding a drug called abatacept to the standard two-drug regimen could better prevent severe Graft vs Host Disease (GvHD) in patients receiving a stem cell transplant from an unrelated donor. GvHD is a dangerous condition where the donor's immune cells attack the patient's body. The trial involved 186 patients with blood cancers and compared the new three-drug combination against the standard two-drug treatment to see if it was safer and more effective.
