Can a cholesterol shot change your aorta? scientists probe during surgery

NCT ID NCT06081153

Summary

This early study aims to understand if lowering 'bad' cholesterol with injections of the drug evolocumab changes the tissue and cells of an abdominal aortic aneurysm. Researchers will compare 44 patients scheduled for open aneurysm repair, giving half the drug and half a placebo for several weeks before surgery. The main goal is to learn how cholesterol affects the aneurysm wall by analyzing tissue samples taken during the operation.
