Breast cancer radiation in just 9 days: trial tests faster treatment

NCT ID NCT03345420

Summary

This study tested whether a shorter, more intense 9-day radiation schedule works as well as the standard 6-8 week treatment for early-stage breast cancer. It involved 102 patients who had undergone lumpectomy, aiming to see if the shorter treatment controls cancer equally while potentially causing fewer side effects and being more convenient. Researchers measured cosmetic results, quality of life, and cancer recurrence rates over two years.
