New scan could spot myeloma lesions better than current tests

NCT ID NCT07353554

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests a new type of PET/CT scan that uses a special tracer (68Ga-BCMA nanobody) to find multiple myeloma lesions in the body. Researchers will compare it to the standard FDG-PET/CT scan in 30 patients with newly diagnosed or relapsed multiple myeloma. The goal is to see if the new method detects more lesions and helps predict how the disease will progress.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

68Ga-NOTA-BCMA nanobody (a radioactive tracer for PET/CT imaging)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could provide a more sensitive and specific imaging test for multiple myeloma, helping doctors detect disease earlier and choose better treatments.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase study with only 30 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The new tracer may not detect all lesions or may have unexpected side effects.
