Could a single fixed dose stop brain bleeds in patients on blood thinners?
NCT ID NCT06096051
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This completed study looked at whether a fixed dose of a drug called 4F-PCC is safe and effective for reversing the effects of common blood thinners (rivaroxaban or apixaban) in patients with brain bleeding. Researchers compared this fixed-dose approach to the standard weight-based dosing in 76 adults. The goal was to see if the simpler fixed dose could control bleeding just as well.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
4-factor prothrombin complex concentrate (4F-PCC)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could simplify emergency treatment for brain bleeding in patients on common blood thinners, potentially saving lives.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed study with only 76 participants. Results may not apply to all patients, and the fixed dose may not work as well as weight-based dosing in some cases.
