3D-Printed dental crowns could replace milled ones in root canal patients
NCT ID NCT07465978
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether 3D-printed resin crowns work as well as standard milled composite crowns for teeth that have had root canal treatment. Sixty adults will receive a crown made from either material, and their dentist will check the crown's fit, color, and durability over one year. The goal is to see if 3D printing can offer a faster and more affordable option without sacrificing quality.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
3D-printed hybrid resin (VarseoSmile TriniQ) and CAD/CAM composite block (Cerasmart)
What this could lead to
If successful, 3D-printed resin could become a cheaper, faster alternative to milled composite for dental crowns after root canal treatment.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 60 patients and 1-year follow-up. The 3D-printed material may not hold up as well as the standard material over time.
