3D-Printed tooth restorations put to the test in new clinical trial
NCT ID NCT06960070
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study is testing three different 3D-printed resin materials used to make onlays (a type of tooth cap) for molars that have had root canal treatment. The goal is to see how well these restorations hold up over one year in terms of function, appearance, and gum health. Forty-eight adults will receive an onlay made from one of the three resins, and their teeth will be checked at 6 and 12 months using standard dental criteria.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
3D-printed resin onlays (Saremco print resin, Varseosmile Crownplus resin, Varseosmile TriniQ resin)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that 3D-printed resin onlays are a reliable, less wasteful option for restoring damaged back teeth after root canal treatment.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 48 participants and a short one-year follow-up. The results may not apply to all teeth or last long-term, and some resins might fail or cause complications.
