3D-Printed night guards could ease jaw pain from teeth grinding

NCT ID NCT07433725

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares 3D-printed night guards to standard acrylic ones for people who grind their teeth (bruxism). Forty-four adults will wear the splints during sleep for 3 months. Researchers will measure how much the splints wear down and ask participants about their satisfaction and quality of life. The goal is to see if the 3D-printed version works just as well.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

3D-printed occlusal splint (night guard)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that 3D-printed night guards are a good alternative to standard ones, potentially making treatment more accessible and affordable.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 44 people. The 3D-printed splints might not be as durable or comfortable as expected, and results may not apply to everyone with bruxism.
