3D-Printed fork handles give elderly patients a grip on mealtime independence

NCT ID NCT07087574

First seen Nov 20, 2025 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study tests whether lightweight, 3D-printed cutlery handles customized to each patient's hand can help elderly people with neurodegenerative diseases eat more independently. About 75 hospitalized patients will try handles of different sizes, and researchers will measure changes in how much they eat and how much help they need. The goal is to improve mealtime autonomy and nutrition without expensive commercial aids.
