3D mammograms put to the test: can they catch more dangerous cancers sooner?

NCT ID NCT02698202

Summary

This large study tested whether adding 3D imaging (tomosynthesis) to standard 2D mammograms improves breast cancer screening. Over 26,000 women aged 45-74 were randomly assigned to receive either the combined 3D/2D test or the standard 2D mammogram alone. The main goal was to see if the 3D technology could find more advanced cancers earlier, especially those that appear between regular screening appointments.
