New scan could spot brain tumors more clearly
NCT ID NCT06055790
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tests a special PET/CT scan using a tracer called 18F-Fluciclovine to see if it can better detect brain metastases and tell them apart from changes caused by earlier treatments. About 20 adults with known or suspected brain metastases will get the scan before and after treatment. The goal is to improve diagnosis and monitoring of brain tumors.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
18F-Fluciclovine (Axumin) – a radioactive tracer used in PET/CT scans
What this could lead to
If successful, this scan could help doctors more accurately identify brain metastases and tell them apart from harmless post-treatment changes, improving treatment decisions.
What could go wrong
This is a small early-phase study with only 20 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The scan is not yet proven to be better than current standard methods.
