New drug aims to reactivate Cancer-Fighting genes in solid tumors
NCT ID NCT07303387
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This phase 2 trial is testing valemetostat, a daily pill, in 900 adults with advanced solid tumors that have specific gene changes (like SMARCB1 or ARID1A). The drug works by blocking EZH1/2 enzymes to reactivate genes that normally protect against cancer. The main goal is to see if the tumor shrinks or stops growing. Participants take the drug for up to two years and are monitored closely for side effects.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Valemetostat (a drug that blocks EZH1/2 enzymes to reactivate cancer-protecting genes)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a new targeted treatment option for people with certain hard-to-treat solid tumors that have specific gene changes.
What could go wrong
This is an early phase 2 trial, so it is not yet proven to work. Side effects from valemetostat are possible, and the drug may not shrink tumors or improve survival.
