New drug combo aims to protect kidney transplants from early failure
NCT ID NCT06855758
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 25, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether adding terlipressin to standard care helps maintain stable blood pressure during kidney transplant surgery. Researchers will compare two groups of 150 adults: one receiving terlipressin plus dobutamine, the other dobutamine alone. The main goal is to see if terlipressin reduces the need for dialysis in the first week after transplant.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
terlipressin
What this could lead to
If it works, this could improve blood pressure control during kidney transplant surgery and reduce the need for dialysis shortly after transplant.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial (150 people) testing a drug already used for other conditions. The benefit may be modest or not confirmed in larger studies.
