Cancer drug durvalumab could soon be a simple shot instead of an IV

NCT ID NCT07391670

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 24, 2026

Summary

This early-phase trial is testing whether a shot (subcutaneous) form of the immunotherapy drug durvalumab works as well as the standard IV version for people with solid tumours. About 40 adults with various solid cancers will receive different doses of the shot, and researchers will measure drug levels in the blood and watch for side effects. The goal is to find a dose that gives similar drug exposure to the IV form, which could make treatment faster and more convenient.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

durvalumab (an immunotherapy drug) given as a shot under the skin

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a more convenient way to give durvalumab without needing an IV drip.

What could go wrong

This is a very early (Phase 1) trial with only 40 people. It is testing safety and drug levels, not yet whether it works against cancer. The shot may not work as well as the IV form.

Conditions

The condition(s) this trial relates to.

hepatocellular carcinoma non-small cell lung carcinoma small cell lung carcinoma
