New peptide drug hopes to boost stroke recovery

NCT ID NCT07581210

First seen May 19, 2026

Summary

This study tests an experimental drug called QD202 in people who have had a stroke caused by a blood clot (acute ischemic stroke) and received clot-busting treatment. The drug is designed to cross into the brain and protect nerve cells. About 120 participants will receive either QD202 or a placebo daily for five days, and researchers will monitor their safety and recovery over 90 days.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

QD202 (a peptide that crosses the blood-brain barrier to potentially protect brain cells)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could point toward a new treatment to improve recovery and reduce disability after a stroke.

What could go wrong

This is an early Phase 2 trial with only 120 participants, so results may not apply to all stroke patients. The drug may not prove effective or could have side effects.

Conditions

The condition(s) this trial relates to.

ischemic stroke
