Scientists ask: is the psychedelic 'Trip' necessary for Psilocybin's benefits?
NCT ID NCT06768944
First seen Jan 08, 2026 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 21 times
Summary
This study aims to find out if the intense, mind-altering experience caused by psilocybin (the active ingredient in magic mushrooms) is necessary for its positive after-effects. Healthy adult volunteers will receive psilocybin along with either a placebo or risperidone, a drug that can block the psychedelic experience. By comparing the two groups, researchers hope to understand whether the subjective 'trip' itself is key to any lasting benefits.
