Home visits by health workers could catch diabetes in new moms

NCT ID NCT06209411

First seen May 11, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether community health workers can help women who had diabetes during pregnancy get tested for type 2 diabetes after giving birth. The trial will take place in urban slums in Pune, India, and involve 330 women. Some women will get tested at home by a health worker, while others will be referred to a clinic. A smaller part of the study will also test if a special snack before meals can help control blood sugar.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

What this could lead to

If successful, this could provide a scalable model to increase postpartum diabetes screening in low-income settings, leading to earlier detection and better health outcomes for women.

What could go wrong

This is a relatively small, early-stage implementation trial focused on screening uptake, not a direct treatment. The results may not generalize to other regions or populations.
