Zap-and-Boost: novel radiation combo aims to shrink Hard-to-Treat cancers
NCT ID NCT07058948
First seen May 06, 2026 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 12 times
Summary
This phase 2 trial is testing a new type of radiation called lattice radiation therapy (LRT) combined with immunotherapy in 30 people with advanced solid tumors that are no longer responding to standard treatments. LRT delivers high doses of radiation to small spots inside the largest tumor while keeping the rest of the tumor and nearby tissues at lower doses, which may help the immune system attack the cancer more effectively. The study will measure how many patients' tumors shrink and track any side effects.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
lattice radiation therapy (a type of radiotherapy that delivers high doses to small spots inside the tumor) combined with immunotherapy (drugs that help the immune system fight cancer)
What this could lead to
If this approach works, it could offer a new treatment option for people with advanced solid tumors who have run out of standard therapies, potentially shrinking tumors and extending life.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase study with only 30 participants and no comparison group, so results may not apply to everyone. The combination of radiation and immunotherapy may cause unexpected side effects.
